Basic guide to developing an academic essay

Personally I argue that this part of the essay does not have to be circular; That is to say, to say again what we have already said, but, on the contrary, to be a part more where we expose our arguments, our ideas or thoughts. However, the conclusion has a synthesis function. In this way, we can provide a summary of our main argument. That is, the conclusion allows us to elaborate a synthesis of what we have said and sustained but as a unit of meaning rather than a summary of what has been said. Finally, and this is the non-circular phase, in the conclusion we can raise the pertinence of investigating some part of what we have developed in our subject, proposing the pertinence of developing new knowledge from the study that we have done. This is because no research is completely complete. Always, although all research is supposed to be exhaustive, we leave something out. Therefore, it is opportune to point out our deficiencies and the important thing to continue producing knowledge about it.


In it we are going to list all the sources we have used, both those that we quote and those that do not. By the way, it is good to know how we are going to quote. An easy way is the APA system, which can be consulted on the Internet.

2) The internal structure of an essay or monograph.
Now we are going to know how the essay is done, that is to say, the internal structure that allows to produce documentary knowledge. In this section we will concentrate on the method that allows us to make our essay with ease and that allows us to deliver it in the format specified in section 1. This means that the points described here do not appear explicitly in the essay, but implicitly. The internal structure is the way we are going to proceed, the method we will follow to make an essay. None of these steps should appear as part of our sections. However, it is often seen that some trials explicitly show a part called targets. We will not do that. On the contrary, as we said, it is in the introduction that we will explain our research problem, our objectives, our hypothesis and our theoretical perspective. Jobs that explicitly include a page to say what the overall objective is and what the specific objectives are, are usually works for didactic purposes.

Well, a basic method as we proceed to make our essay is as follows:
Selection and delimitation of the topic. Data collection Problem approach Preparation of a preliminary scheme. Elaboration of information sheets. Hypotheses and objectives.

Theoretical Perspective.
This latter part is already more delimited than the first and we could perfectly well present it as a research topic. What is involved is to arrive at a well defined topic that allows us to focus on it, and also, allow us to specifically search for information on that specific topic.

Collection of data.
Now that we have the subject delimited we must select the material that will allow us to carry out our essay. To this end, we will do the following:
– $ – Locate the works that deal with the theme.
– $ – Review the specific bibliography.

Once we have the works that deal with the selected theme, we proceed to review them quickly. This means that we do not have to read them all, but to review their content, that is, to look at the index when it comes to books, and in the abstract or abstract, when it comes to magazine articles. Other materials can be useful in our knowledge construction, such as films and documentaries.
